What is Tech Prep?

The West Sound Education Consortium's career-technical education initiative is an approach to learning that acknowledges that students learn best when they learn by doing.

Whether students are planning to attend college, get post-secondary training or enter the workplace after high school, career-technical education teaches strategies and activities that promote high academic performance and practical learning.

Through various district level programs, the West Sound Education Consortium exposes students to a wide range of academic and career areas, including technology, science, health and safety, communications, the arts, business and industry.

What is Career Technical Education (CTE)?

Depending on the student's goals for post-secondary education, career-technical education can be a stepping stone to direct entry into the workforce, transition to a community college or technical school, or entry into a four-year college or university.

The focus of career-technical education programs is on real world experience within rigorous academic study. It emphasizes math, language, teamwork and problem solving skills. Parents, teachers, employers and students work together to provide a community network of opportunities for students to learn.

At the core of career-technical education are rigorous academics, career awareness and exploration, work-based learning and postsecondary education options. Students are exposed to real-world situations while building strong reading, writing, math and problem solving skills.
